olive trench coat

This post is a little delayed because we decided to leave early for the mountains.  Last night after Trent finished up work we left for Brevard and got there around 8pm.  I can’t even describe how nice it felt when we got out of the car.  It has been so hot this past week in Charlotte that stepping out into 70 degrees was heavenly.  So I’m writing this as I sit at my mother-in-law’s kitchen table with the french doors wide open, letting the morning breeze in.  It’s perfect.

Today’s look is from Pink Hanger, a boutique located in Charlotte’s Cotswold area, and I couldn’t be more in love with each of these pieces.  A great trench coat can be hard to find and honestly traditional ones are a little too restrictive for me.  The waterfall front and soft fabrication of this olive trench makes it a fantastic transition piece that makes every look appear effortless.  It has a tie-waist that I chose to tie back in a bow.  I have always struggled with tie waist coats like this because they tend to make me look wider and aren’t nearly as flattering as they are open.  As a result, I pretty much always tie it back like I have here.  I think it adds a cute detail and honestly gives the jacket great shape.  It helps still define your waist without restricting it.

There are so many ways you could style this trench coat: pair it with jeans and a simple tee, throw it over a pair of shorts for a cool high-low look, or pair it with a fabulous body-con dress for a night out.  I took the more casual route and layered it over an easy knit dress with a high-low hem.  It’s super soft, too, so I basically felt like I was wearing pajamas.  Winning!  To keep the neutral look and let the olive be the focus color, I decided to pair it with these nude sandals from Splendid.  I love the lace-up detail!  These babies will be worn every season except winter.  Can’t wait to style them with more looks!

Hope you all have a wonderful Friday. Cheers to the weekend!
